Readings
Reference materials connect the work of the studio to a broader disciplinary context and support alternate modes of reflection. During Part 1: Experiments and Imagination, readings and lectures are intended to deepen the links between two primary construction techniques: Modeling and Imaging. The links between these two forms of iterative making/thinking are used to develop design processes that focus on material, form, space and the consequences interferences (context, environment, people, time...) generate.
Though not a reading-intensive studio, this ever-evolving, and not all-inclusive list of reference grounds the studio work in both current and historical understandings. Readings may be curated and assigned throughout the semester to deepen and link the work to both philosophical understandings and various construction techniques, both representational and physical. When readings are assigned, be prepared to discuss, bring passages or images from the readings as it relates to your studio projects.

Grading
A precondition for evaluating student’s work is the respectful dialogue between faculty and students - thoughtful response to feedback. More detailed assessment criteria will be described and explained in each project brief. There are two primary ways of assessing students’ work. Feedback is informal and frequent, while Grades are formal and infrequent.
Students will receive grades 3 times throughout the semester. Part 1, Part 2 Midterm, and Final Grade
25% Part 1 (4 weeks) | Review Friday, Sept. 29,
2/3 collective teamwork (17%)
1/3 individual work (8%)
70% Part 2 (6 weeks)
Midterm Review. Friday, October 27
Code Review. Monday, November 20
Final Review. Friday, December 8
5% Final portfolio and digital submission (1 week) | Due Wednesday December 13
